The effect of replacing soybean meal with Fava bean seeds in daily ration of Lebanese Baladi goat kids and Awassi sheep lambs: 1- Body performance

The aim of the study was to investigate partial and complete substitution imported soybean meal (SBM) with Fava bean seeds (FBS) in Awassi male lambs (S) local Baladi goat kids (G) rations consequences on body performance. Fifteen growing 15 kids, an initial bodyweight 23.09 14.90 kg 100 days age, respectively, were fed cotton-seed (CSM), wheat bran corn-based diet supplemented protein legume sources, 75% FBS :25% SBM (S75 & G75), 0% :100% (S100 G100-positive control) 100% :0% (SC0 GC0- negative control). all groups had comparable average feed intake (FI) accumulating between 43.9 49.4 kg/head live weight gain (LBWG) 6.5 10.9 kg/head. Whereas attained a cumulative LBWG levels 5.7 3.96 FI 28.2 29.7 Feed conversion ratio (FCR) for best results group S50 (3.92) least S100 (6.82) 7.14 G100 5.25 G75 groups. Feeding 50% based-ration gave more profit 17.2% than other comparison SC0. On hand, highest by 19.15% kids. Most notably, omitting or without additional as fava replacements resulted high-body performance level.
